Creating a Form

A form, which is an element consisting of fields, can be used on a web page to collect feedback, registrations and requests for contact, for example. A form is created using the form tool.

The information entered into a form can be sent via email to a given address and may also be saved in a database.

It's a good idea to save the information in a database if the information is going to be handled as a single entity later on. The information in competition forms, feedback forms and newsletter subscription forms, for instance, should be saved in a database.

The information in a request for contact form can be sent by email only as these forms are usually processed immediately and can be handled individually.
The following fields can be chosen for a form:

Text field / Text area = a field or area containing text
Select / Multiple choice / Checkbox / Radio button = a field containing multiple options
File = select a file and send with form
Help text = help text between fields
CAPTCHA = a field to prevent computerized responses (such as spamming, for example)
Hidden = an invisible field for sending hidden information

In addition, you can divide the form in parts (New Section) and spread it across multiple pages (New Page).

1. Click on the column where you want to create the form.

3. Create fields for the form using the field palette on the left. In this example, we will use three text fields and one text area.

4. Double-click on a field title and type in a name for each of the fields.

5. Select a form template in the Form Template menu. The menu may contain multiple options if the various forms on the site have different uses. The form template determines how the form is displayed and what it looks like. The form template options are specific to each web site.

6. Save the changes.

Responses sent using a form will be collected for later use; therefore, the form must be set to send the responses via email or save the responses in a content database.
