Crasman = a human-sized workplace

Crasman = a human-sized workplace

At Crasman, you will undoubtedly hear people talking about a workplace that is human-sized. This means that our goal is to prioritise people (and humanity) in every decision we make. We also aim to be a leader in demonstrating how a human-centred work culture can be successfully integrated with a growing and profitable business.

We asked our people what aspects of Crasman's humane work culture are truly visible. What does a "human-sized workplace" mean to us, in practical terms?

It's "nice" that we support physical activity, provide lunch subsidies, have newly refurbished office spaces, and there's a fridge full of drinks and other things, but none of this would matter without a culture that genuinely supports at least one's own well-being significantly. Here, we truly care about people, show genuine interest, demonstrate appreciation, and act fairly.

Work life < life

Lifes events don't disappear when the entry badge beeps. A person is the same whole at home and in the office - personal matters inevitably spill over into work life, just as one sometimes hears complaints or enthusiasm about work matters at home. We don't turn a blind eye to this but instead strive to create a culture where life's joys and sorrows are welcome in our daily work life as well.

At Crasman, employees are treated as people, as individuals. Additionally, since everyday life almost invariably reflects on work life for all of us, Crasman as an employer is understanding and flexible.

Crasman has an understanding of humanity and the challenges it brings. Whether it is health, professional, or leisure, humanity is formed from examining these aspects.

Superhumans < ordinary people

The best of the day is enough. Sometimes it's brilliant, and sometimes something else. It's pointless to aim for perfectionism or superhumanity, mainly because it seldom leads to good results anyway.

Nor is there any point in trying to struggle alone when the best ideas and innovations are invariably born together. We work in multidisciplinary teams comprising individuals with various skills, weaknesses, and strengths. A trustworthy atmosphere is measured by whether our people dare to express their insecurities and failures.

Here, help is available when challenges arise. You learn a lot by working together. The company hierarchy is flat, and you can discuss with anyone.

It's possible for an employee to move up, down, or sideways in their career path.

Here, you dare to fail. Put your hand up in mistakes, and there's no finger-pointing.

There's no need to create unnecessary rushes and emergencies. If there's a panic situation, it's genuinely urgent. We don't create undue pressure on workers.

Put the cat on the table > hide the cat under the table

Open discussion and direct speech are at the core of our culture. It's important to us that even difficult issues can be discussed openly, honestly, and empathetically. This doesn't remain just an ideology but is brought up concretely for discussion by our entire community. Sometimes it's our CEO Samuli who brings the "cat on the table", but more often it's someone else.

Open and empathetic discussion culture is fundamentally related to whether people in the work community can truly be themselves. Ultimately, the most sustainable work culture is one where everyone can be who they are.

There's no need to placate here. You can express opinions and be open. Your opinions are also listened to and valued.

Open discussion about company matters happens at a level that makes it easy to approach, preventing the formation of any exclusionary bubbles within the company.

Not my business < everything is my business

A human-sized workplace is built together. Our humane work culture is not realised merely through mission statement wording or brand workshops; every Crasman is in part responsible for it. Does everyone do their part to make a new colleague feel welcome? Do they ask how a colleague who seems unusually quiet is doing? Do they speak up when they see discrepancies? Do they give thanks and feedback when it's warranted?

This is best realised in how genuinely our people feel about being at work and part of our community:

We take care of each other and thus the whole company. We check in on each other, give feedback, and offer support.

The office has a good, homely vibe, as close as possible to how it would be if I were self-employed.

Crasman has a truly warm, open, and welcoming culture. I consider myself a good example of how an introvert with anxiety quickly found their place in this fantastic team!

As someone who works remotely, it's always nice to visit the office, and I feel welcome.

There you have it, in a nutshell. There would be enough stories about our culture for several blog posts, but the rest is best experienced and sensed on-site 😊 So, welcome to building a human-sized workplace with our other creative nerds!
