Sharing expertise strengthens the entire work community – Introducing web developer Tiina Heikkilä

The spirit of collaboration, flexibility, and skills development are the strengths of Crasman's work culture.

Tiina Heikkilä works as a web developer specialising in front-end coding, user interfaces, search engine optimisation, and analytics at Crasman in Tampere.

"Since joining Crasman, I've also become significantly involved in the back-end aspect. It's gratifying to have a workplace that supports and encourages the deepening of one's expertise. Lately, I've been particularly interested in accessibility and the related requirements,” Heikkilä shares.

Having previously worked at a smaller company, she was interested in the broader projects and skills development opportunities offered by a large digital agency.

“The particularly great thing about Crasman is the culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing. Different people have different strengths, skills complement each other, and no one needs to boast or show off. It feels good to help others with my expertise and, in turn, receive help when needed. Management listens attentively to the work community and develops ways of working based on employees’ wishes.”

Projects Keep Interest Alive

Engaging in acroyoga, climbing, and skateboarding, Heikkilä considers herself very much a project person, both in her work and free time: both are united by working in inspiring teams and the rewarding nature of a finished outcome.

However, her leisure activities mainly do not involve coding but rather ventures such as event organising, association activities, and different crafts.

“I find it a bit peculiar, the prevalent industry practice where developers work on job-related projects in their free time to keep their skills up to date. Personally, I feel that my work efficiency and health stay at a better level when I can immerse myself entirely in something different during my free time,” Heikkilä concludes.

For Heikkilä, flexibility in work is crucial, which applies in both directions. It's easy to bank hours to take flexible leave when there's less work.

Equally vital is the overall comfort within the work community. One should be able to be oneself at work and feel at ease. The Tampere office team often enjoys spending time together outside of work, such as through board game nights.

“I particularly like our Tampere office because, on one hand, we're a smaller unit where everyone knows each other more closely, yet we benefit from the larger work community's pool of expertise and advantages,” Heikkilä reflects.
