Sharing expertise strengthens the entire work community – Introducing web developer Tiina Heikkilä

The spirit of collaboration, flexibility and skills development are the strengths of Crasman's work culture.

Tiina Heikkilä works at Crasman in Tampere as a web developer, specialising in front-end coding, user interfaces, search engine optimisation, and analytics.

“Since joining Crasman, I have also got involved in back-end aspects. It's great when the workplace supports and encourages you to deepen your skills. Recently, I have been particularly interested in accessibility and the requirements related to it,” says Heikkilä.

Having previously worked at a smaller company, she was drawn to the larger projects and skills development enabled by a bigger digital agency.

“What I find especially great about Crasman is the culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing. Different people have different strengths; skills complement each other and there's no need for one-upmanship or to prove oneself. It feels good to be able to help others with my skills and receive help when needed. Management listens attentively to the community and develops ways of working based on employees' wishes.”

Projects keep the interest alive

Practicing acroyoga, climbing, and skateboarding, Heikkilä strongly identifies as a project person both at work and in her free time, where both involve working in inspiring teams and the rewarding feeling of a completed project.

However, her leisure activities are not particularly related to coding, but instead to organising events, association activities, and various crafts.

“I find it slightly strange that in this field, it's common practice for coders to work on job-related projects in their spare time to stay up-to-date with their skills. Personally, I feel that my efficiency and health are better maintained when I can immerse myself in something entirely different during my free time,” Heikkilä concludes.

Equally important to Heikkilä is the flexibility of work, which works both ways. It's easy to work extra hours and take compensatory time off when work is less demanding.

Equally essential is the overall comfort of the work community. You should be able to be yourself at work and feel at ease. The Tampere office team also does a lot together in their free time, such as board game nights.

“I like our Tampere office especially because, on one hand, we are a smaller unit where everyone knows each other more closely, but there is still the expertise and benefits of a larger community behind us,” Heikkilä muses.
