With Heart
Security is one of the most important measures of wellbeing, both in working life and in life in general. The feeling arises from being accepted as one is and receiving appreciation for one's contribution. From having the freedom to share one's ideas without fear of embarrassment or complete rejection. And from criticism and developmental suggestions being presented constructively in private.
When a person feels they are a meaningful part of a work community and doing important work, that famous work engagement emerges, bringing joy to the employee, employer, and customer. Maximum potential is used: knowledge, skills, motivation, and well-being.
Empathy and Respect from Person to Person
Working life? Or should we just say life? The line blurs as the amount of cerebral work increases. Is there any sense in separating work and other aspects of life when measuring wellbeing?
Sometimes things go brilliantly, sometimes disastrously. Life's twists do not disappear when the keycard beeps; rather, a person remains as one and the same entity at home and in the office. One cannot and does not even need to perform at a superhuman level at all times.
